Smith Academy is proud to provide our scholars with a high quality athletic program. We are full members of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and we compete according to the rules and regulations set by the IHSAA.

Athletic Director, Gary Merrell

Coach Merrell has served as Athletic Director at Smith Academy since 2013. He is a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame (and 4 other halls of fame). He has previously served as AD and head varsity basketball coach at several other schools in Indiana. During his head coaching career, he amassed nearly 500 wins making him one of the winningest coaches in the state of Indiana. He has also led teams to multiple sectional and regional championships as well as a state championship appearance.
